You hear it all the time - women console eachother with that excuse. The reality is, most good looking women put out some kind of radar that tells men not to bother...unless they are good looking or have money. You'll note that good looking and rich men have no problem approaching good looking women - cause they've been given the unspoken signal that its okay. The intimidation line is just a way for a woman to feel good about herself if she is not approached. You hear it all the time – women console eachother with that excuse.
